Honey badger sniffing the air

Honey badger sniffing the air

We saw this honey badger while camping in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in Botswana. On that particular day we were watching a cheetah and her cub playing on a termite mound when suddenly the mother turned and looked away. She fixed her gaze on a point to our left. We turned our heads and spotted a dark shape shuffling around in the sand: a honey badger! It was foraging quite close to us and didn’t seem too bothered by our big red truck.

We were amazed at our luck! In a two-hour time span we had discovered an aardwolf den (an aardwolf!!), a cheetah and her cub, and now a honey badger.

The Central Kalahari never ceased to surprise us.
